VIOLIN
< Back to Instrument Overview
Comprised of 4 strings and a bow made of hair, the violin has offered a wealth of musical knowledge for centuries. Our Violin students range in age from 4 years to adult and include a diverse range of musical ability. For first timers, the instrument can offer an expansive comprehension into the world of orchestral and contemporary music. Currently, our Violin instruction offers several programs that allow students to explore genres ranging from classical formats to more contemporary forms. We offer an in depth structured approach designed to meet the needs of the aspiring beginner and professional alike. Our STEP Program will guide you through a succession of techniques to help you develop a style all your own!
Our students begin the violin at age 4 and we find that being able to take care of and hold one's own instrument made just for one's size does wonders for a small child’s confidence. The violin is an incredibly versatile instrument that is used in genres such as: classical, jazz, country, pop, and folk, and is very popular in music from India, Pakistan, Turkey, and the Middle East. The violin is the member of the string family with the highest range and is a principal instrument of any orchestra. As a student grows, his or her finger dexterity improves, but one can begin plucking and bowing immediately. One of the greatest violinists of all time, Itzhak Pearlman, fell in love with the violin at the age of 3, contracted polio at the age of 4 and with perseverance and passion for music was playing his violin on the Ed Sullivan show at the age of 13.
