What is the string bass / double bass?
The string bass (or double bass) is the largest and lowest-pitched of the string family. It stands around six feet tall and is featured in many genres, including Western classical music, jazz, blues, rock and roll, rockabilly, country, bluegrass, tango, and folk music.
Like its string siblings, the bass is played with either a bow or by plucking its strings, which is called pizzicato.
When playing the double bass, a bassist either stands or sits on a high stool, leaning the instrument against his or her body. Traditionally, when playing a solo performance a bassist will stand and when playing with an orchestra or in the opera pit, a bassist will sit. Even though a string bass has thick strings and takes a considerable amount of arm strength to play, this isn’t an instrument only for the boys. Each room has everything you need for your lesson in any discipline including electronic drum sets, amplifiers, other instruments and acoustic pianos. We’ve got you covered.

Twice a year we offer awards recitals open to all of our students so their family and friends can celebrate their accomplishments. Every parent wants to know that their child is progressing and having them participate in recitals is the best way to confirm that the investment in lessons is really worth it. Past recital themes include Red Carpet, Christmas, Mardi Gras, Chocolate, Dress-up Halloween, and Glow-in-the-dark. We have a photographer, videographer, and often live-stream our concerts ending in a lovely reception. Students are never required to perform but many do as it’s incredibly gratifying to get to play in front of an audience and receive applause from a full house of support.
